The Gort Cloud:  The Invisible Force Powering Today's Most Visible Green Brands
Richard Seireeni

According to a recent review from Publishers Weekly, Richard Seireeni’s latest book, The Gort Cloud, is a detailed market report in which the “veteran brand consultant and creative executive Seireeni maps out the network of experts, activists, tastemakers, special interests, consumers and others who guide the fate of rapidly proliferating "green" businesses.” There are over two dozen in-depth case studies profiling brand development and marketing strategies of some of today’s leading green brands including Seventh Generation, Tesla Motors and Stonyfield Farm—providing valuable insight for “anyone looking to make hay in the growing green movement.”

Seireeni, who is the founder and director of The Brand Architect Group and upcoming Good And Green(R) presenter, recently gave us some additional insight into his life as a writer, a marketer and becoming a “geezer dad.”

The Top 10 Things You Might Not Know About Richard Seireeni

1.  Our affiliate office is in Japan, which I visit often.  My special trick for working off jetlag is to get up early, pick a direction, and try to walk a more or less straight line to a chosen destination.  In this way, I discover so much of hidden Tokyo on each trip.

2.  Many people are surpised to know that I was an art director at Rolling Stone in the 70s and creative director or Warner Bros. Records in the early 80s.  I learned the basics of writing and marketing with those two experiences.

3.  I owe my current optimistic view on life to the decision to become a geezer dad.  I've got two wonderful children that inspire me everday.

4.  I often advise young designers to get as much real-world experience as possible, and not to get tied down to a computer.  Change jobs often.  See the world.  Live in foreign countries.  Designers are like writers in the sense that they communicate ideas.  You can have a great design or writing skills, but if you don't have exposure to ideas, you won't create anything new.

5.  I'm an atheist.  I mention this because this is just one manifestation of my personality, which is to doubt everything.  I don't assume that what I'm told is true anymore than I assume there is a heaven, a hell or a creator.

6.  I love camping.

7.  I am a neatnic.  I can't start doing anything if there's a mess around me, which leads to the second thing, I can't stand storing things.  If it hasn't been used in a month, I want to get rid of it--ecologically of course.

8.  I'm embarrassed to admit this, but that solar system we installed at considerable cost...it doesn't work.  It's a long story, but in the end, it isn't working out for us.

9.  My laptop is completely loaded down with digital pictures.  I think this is the one thing that I share with everyone, including perhaps, George Bush.

10.  I love talking with students.  As an audience, I think that's my favorite.
