Mom Central Study: Moms and Organics

As we all get ready to celebrate the moms in our life on Sunday, May 10th, our friends at Mom Central Consulting sent along an interesting study regarding moms and organics. Even in difficult economic times, we know that moms make their children's health and nutrition a priority. Mom Central asked 1445 Moms to tell them what eating organic means to them—here are some highlights:

Organic Produce is a Priority

  • Over half of Moms surveyed said that purchasing organic fruit (56%) or organic vegetables (57%) was important.
  • Safety of organic products is key. 84% of Moms were concerned about the use of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers in food as well as the use of growth hormones. 74% of Moms believe that consuming organic foods and dairy will benefit their families' health.

Frequency of Purchasing Organic

  • 83% of moms purchase organic groceries at least some of the time, but only 8% always purchase organic. (4% of Moms said that they never purchased organic groceries.)
  • The majority of moms (62%) typically shop for organic products at their regular grocery store.

Cost of Purchasing Organic

  • 58% of moms reported that purchasing organic groceries was too expensive for their family, while 75% said the availability of coupons influenced their decision to purchase organic products.
